The Enlightened Parent
The Enlightened Parent vs Huckleberry
An honest comparison, written by the team behind The Enlightened Parent. The short version: these are different tools that happen to share a category. Huckleberry is a sleep-guidance product with a tracker attached. We are a shared family log with no guidance layer at all, on purpose. Plenty of families should pick Huckleberry. This page is for working out which family is yours.
What Huckleberry is genuinely great at
Sleep, first and most. Huckleberry’s SweetSpot feature suggests nap and bedtime windows, and it is the most praised thing about the app; parents consistently describe the suggestions as on target. The guidance behind it is built with pediatric sleep specialists. If your problem is “I need my baby to sleep and I want help,” this is Huckleberry’s home turf, and we do not compete on it.
A genuinely useful free tier. Everyday logging (feeds, sleep, diapers, multiple kids) is free, and both parents can log on the free tier by signing the same account into both phones. Basic sharing is not paywalled. The paid plans ($11.99 and $14.99 a month when we checked in mid-2026; see their site for current pricing) add SweetSpot, personalized sleep plans, and their AI assistant.
Polish and trust at scale. It is the best-known tracker in the category for a reason: millions of families, years of refinement, and fast capture with conveniences like widgets and Apple Watch support.
A reasonable data posture. Huckleberry states that it does not sell user data, offers data export, and supports account deletion. That deserves to be said plainly.
Where we differ, by design
Their newest flagship is an AI assistant. Ours is still the log. Huckleberry’s latest marquee feature is Berry, a premium AI assistant that talks with you about your child in the context of what you have logged. Plenty of parents will genuinely like that. We made the opposite call, on purpose: there is no AI anywhere in this app, and no model, ours or anyone else’s, ever reads your family’s entries. They built an AI to talk to you about your baby. We built a quiet log your whole family owns.
No predictions, and no AI. This is the biggest philosophical difference. A prediction engine turns a log into a schedule, and a schedule can turn 2am into a test you are failing. We built a log that records your day rather than a clock that judges it: what happened, when, logged in a couple of taps, with no view that grades you. If predictions help you, Huckleberry does them well. If they wind you up, this difference is the reason we exist.
Two sign-ins, one family record. Huckleberry’s sharing works: one account, signed into both phones, free. Our model is different at the data layer. Each parent has their own account on one shared family record, and every entry shows who logged it. There is no shared password to manage, and “who did the 3am feed” has an answer. For couples trying to keep the load visible and evenly held, the attribution is the feature.
The handoff is a link, not a login. When a sitter or grandparent takes over, you send a time-boxed link that shows exactly what you choose: routines, contacts, notes, emergency info. No account, no app install; it expires on its own and you can revoke it any time. If you want the caregiver to log the day, you can allow that too: they sign in with an emailed code and can write to the care log for the life of the link, and nothing else.
A doctor view for checkups. Per kid, the last two weeks of feeding, diaper, and sleep patterns, plus anything you flagged for the doctor, formatted so you can print it and hand it over.
Free, and quiet about your data. The app is free for families. No ads, no AI, no client-side analytics trackers, and your family’s data is never sold. You can export everything, or delete the account, from inside the app.
Pick Huckleberry if
- Sleep is the problem you are solving, and you want predictions and expert guidance rather than just a record.
- You want expert-designed sleep programs and are happy to pay for them.
- You want the most established app in the category, with the widest platform polish.
Pick The Enlightened Parent if
- You are two parents who both log, and you want your own sign-ins and an honest record of who did what.
- You want a calm log with no schedule pressure, no predictions, and no AI.
- You regularly hand your kids to a sitter, nanny, or grandparent, and want that to be one expiring link rather than a shared password.
- You want free to mean free, with export and deletion built in.
Common questions
Can both parents use Huckleberry?
Yes. Both parents can log on Huckleberry's free tier by signing the same account into both phones. The difference in The Enlightened Parent is the model: each parent has their own sign-in on one shared family record, and every entry shows who logged it, rather than one shared login and a single stream.
Does The Enlightened Parent predict naps like SweetSpot?
No, and it will not. That is a design decision, not a missing feature: we build a record of your day, not a schedule for it. If nap prediction is what you want, Huckleberry is the right choice.
